Select one day a week: Monday through Friday. Select a kindergarten tutor time: 10:00-10:30, 11:30-Noon, or 2:00-2:30. Don’t worry, we have substitutes if you know you will miss a week.
Come and participate
Come and participate in some tutoring sessions and then, when you are ready, launch out on your own. On your first visit, please be sure to bring your driver’s license or other government issued ID so you can be added to the school’s security system.
Watch your students learn
You can help put these children on the road to academic success! We believe relationships really matter. This is why you’ll run the sessions with the same students each week.
Enjoy making a meaningful difference in the lives of children!
Consistency is important with your student, but we understand that everyone has busy schedules and scheduling conflicts will arise. Let Linda know ahead of time so that we can inform the teacher and schedule a substitute.
With the help of volunteers like you who lead tutoring sessions in the classroom, the children learn to navigate the learning software on an iPad – the very iPad they will be allowed to take home at the end of each school day. The children are already feeling confident and empowered when they earn the right to take the iPad home. It is gratifying to see these students want to take the iPad home. They want to learn!
Students are enrolled for two or more tutoring sessions each week, and on average, students complete 30 tutoring sessions within the school year. Students are re-evaluated each year to ensure high needs students are prioritized for tutoring.
No, Florida students already undergo plenty of tests. All testing is performed by the school. When the student raises to grade level, the teacher may withdraw the student from tutoring as there may be another child that needs help getting caught up.
Our students are referred by their teachers. If your child is a student in one of our classrooms, speak with their teacher about the possibility of getting him/her referred to our tutoring program.
It is important to provide tutoring in kindergarten to prevent a student from falling further behind where he/she may never catch-up.
