School supplies
Our supply closet is constantly stocked with the following school supplies.
Pencils
Kindergarteners use “beginner” pencils that are a bit larger and easier to hold. The Ticonderoga Beginners Wood Pencils are a favorite!
Unit Cost 33¢ when 50 boxes of 12 purchased.
Pencil Erasers
Kindergarteners quickly wear out the erasers on the end of their pencils. Providing the old-fashioned handheld pink erasers is less expensive alternative to constantly providing new pencils.
Unit cost 20¢ when purchased in a 100-pack.
Glue Sticks
The purple, washable glue sticks is the preferred glue in kindergarten classrooms.
Unit cost 25¢ when purchased in a 60-pack.
Crayons
Large size crayons work best for kindergarteners. Since students store their crayons in pencil pouches, there is no need to pay extra for boxed crayons. Sam’s Club sells a 400/box of Crayola crayons in a class pack. We have a volunteer who packages the eight colors in inexpensive packs for distribution.
Unit cost $1 for 8-color bundle
Pencil Pouches
These pencil pouches are a teacher favorite both for their durability and low cost. We’ve only found them on Amazon.
Unit cost 29¢ when purchased in a 72-pack.
Mini Dry Erase Erasers
These little erasers are the perfect size for little hands. Using paper towels creates a mess as the dry erase ink goes everywhere.
Unit cost 24¢ when purchased in a 48-pack.
Dry Erase pockets
Teachers are convinced kids learn more with these dry erase pockets. These pockets not only save on paper but they allow the children to practice, erase, practice, erase, practice – and all the while not creating a hole in the paper. Walmart Pen + Gear Reusable Dry Erase Pockets are excellent quality.
Unit cost 67¢ when purchased in a 30-pack.
Zip Lock Bags
Gallon-size zip lock bags are used for storage of headphones and many other classroom items. The slider bags are better for little fingers.
Primary Journals
Here the teachers have a single preference. The Primary Journal Story Tablet with drawing area is the best for young students. Nothing else will do! Parents often purchase less expensive tablets at the start of the school year and the teachers say children learn to write better with these tablets.
Unit cost $2.12 for a carton of 12
