Kid-Sized Materials

We collaborate with kindergarten and first-grade teachers to create kid-sized materials that align directly with their classroom curriculums. The teachers use these materials in the classroom and allow the children to take them home. Kids love owning their own learning materials.

We thank our paper sponsor, Walmart River City Marketplace, and our cadre of volunteers who cut and assemble the materials. They make this all possible!

Sight Word Pads

Reinvented for the 2023-24 school year!  Every kindergartener receives 30 sight word pads that align directly with the classroom curriculum.  A new pad is introduced each week.  Each pad contains the newest words the children are expected to learn and know “by sight” (i.e., not sounded out).  A few sentences show how the words are used.  Manuscript lines help students practice their handwriting while reinforcing these words.  At the back of each pad is an alphabetical grouping of sight words to date.  Photo

In total, 2,970 pads are assembled each school year using 21,285 sheets of paper.

Count to 100

Many kindergarteners intuitively see the number structure behind counting to 100. Others need help seeing the logic.

This colorful math and handwriting activity is both laminated for classroom use and printed for the kids to take home.

We even provided an oversized sorter in each kindergarten classroom for ease of storage.

LITERACY WORKBOOKS

The District employs the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) program to teach young readers.  We put together two workbooks with lessons/drills devised by UFLI.  In addition, our workbooks include manuscript pages.  These manuscript pages, which were designed by a Dinsmore Elementary kindergarten teacher, help practice both letter formation and spelling.
We call these workbooks My Blue Book and My Purple Book.  Each kindergartener receives his/her very own workbooks.

Each year, we compile 160 workbooks containing 7,040 sheets of paper and 280 sheet protectors.

Dot-to-Dot Pads

To date, 13 dot-to-dot pads are in production. In the past, teachers have been purchasing dot-to-dots with their own money and said they never had enough. We created our own quality (even if we do say so ourselves) dot-to-dots and bind them according to the level of difficulty. That way, teachers can select just the right skill level for each child. While the kids think the puzzles are only for fun, they are improving fine motor skills needed for writing and learning number order (or mastering the alphabet).

In total, 2,130 pads are provided each school year using 11,715 sheets of paper.

We collaborate with Title One public school teachers to provide services and products to get all students and caught up to grade level.
