It is important to provide tutoring in kindergarten to prevent a student from falling further behind where he/she may never catch-up.

Qualifications to tutor a small group:

  • Are you available to volunteer during school hours?
  • Commitment to and belief in all children’s ability to succeed.
  • Patient, friendly, reliable, and non-judgmental attitude.
  • Ability to listen and determine what the student does not understand.
  • Comfortable with technology (expertise is NOT required).
  • Do you like to see children having fun and learning at the same time?

No prep work is required. Just bring your smiling face!

The Khan Academy Kids learning software we use is loved by the children!  The iPads are “locked down” and this is the only application accessible.

You can get started anytime during the school year. You do not need to wait as classroom teachers are requesting more tutors.

Students are enrolled for two or more tutoring sessions each week, and on average, students complete 30 tutoring sessions within the school year. Students are re-evaluated each year to ensure high needs students are prioritized for tutoring.

No, Florida students already undergo plenty of tests. All testing is performed by the school. When the student raises to grade level, the teacher may withdraw the student from tutoring as there may be another child that needs help getting caught up.

Consistency is important with your student, but we understand that everyone has busy schedules and scheduling conflicts will arise. Let Linda know ahead of time so that we can inform the teacher and schedule a substitute.

With the help of volunteers like you who lead tutoring sessions in the classroom, the children learn to navigate the learning software on an iPad – the very iPad they will be allowed to take home at the end of each school day.  The children are already feeling confident and empowered when they earn the right to take the iPad home.  It is gratifying to see these students want to take the iPad home.  They want to learn!

Our students are referred by their teachers. If your child is a student in one of our classrooms, speak with their teacher about the possibility of getting him/her referred to our tutoring program.
