Finding all the ways to decompose a number is much more fun and memorable with burger buns and pickle buttons! The activity starts by placing pickle buttons in a closed bun (whole number). Then, the children open the bun and move pickles from side to side (parts) recording all the possible combinations.

More than 10,000 assignments have been completed by kindergarteners and first graders in our after-school program! And, the school year is not quite half over! In addition to in-school tutoring, the young students take iPads home to complete Khan Academy Kids lessons that have been assigned to them. The iPads have cellular internet and, therefore,
“David” started first grade not knowing all the letters of the alphabet. He was receiving all F-grades on reading comprehension. He took an iPad home every night and completed his assigned lessons. He quickly advanced through the kindergarten and first-grade learning paths. His classroom teacher reports he scored 100% on his latest reading comprehension test.
These handy pads allow children to get plenty of number bond practice. They can later re-visit their work. The children are encouraged to take them home to create their own math equations.
